Background:

Anup Adiwasi, born on 7th September 2022, hails from Kanser village in Ghatigaon block, Madhya Pradesh. In February 2024, he was diagnosed with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), with critical indicators: weight 5.5 kg, height 70 cm, and MUAC 9 cm, placing him at -4SD on the WHO growth chart. Anup's parents, migrant daily wage earners, struggled to meet his nutritional needs, exacerbating his condition.

Intervention by BNF Team:

During a field visit, the BNF team identified Anup's critical state, including complications like edema and persistent crying. Immediate steps included:

  1. Referral to NRC: Anup was admitted to a Nutritional Rehabilitation Center for intensive care.
  2. Medical Care: He received specialized treatment and therapeutic feeding over 14 days.
  3. Nutritional Support: High-calorie, nutrient-dense foods and supplements addressed his deficiencies.
  4. Family Counseling: Parents were educated on proper nutrition, hygiene, and healthcare practices.

Recovery and Follow-Up:

Anup responded positively to the interventions, transitioning from SAM to Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) within 14 days. Key improvements:
