Rafijan’s Transformation: Beating Anemia with Nutrition and Awareness

Rafijan’s journey is a testament to the impact of simple, sustainable solutions. By spreading awareness, providing practical support, and ensuring continuous follow-ups, the BNF team has empowered an entire community to fight anemia—one child at a time.

Every child deserves a healthy future. Together, we can make it happen.

Rafijan Begum, a 16-year-old student at Haligaon High School, was identified as anemic (HB 6.2) during a school health camp in October 2023. A follow-up home visit by the BNF team revealed severe nutritional deficiencies in her diet, attributed to a lack of awareness in her family about proper nutrition.

To address this, the BNF team educated her parents about nutrition and provided practical support by distributing seeds for growing nutritious food at home and supplying iron biscuits. The team also distributed iron biscuits, IFA tablets, and seeds at the school, accompanied by awareness camps to educate students and staff.

Under the team's guidance, Rafijan started consuming three iron biscuits daily and one IFA tablet at school. Continuous monitoring and support from the BNF team led to a remarkable improvement in her health, with her HB level rising to 12.1 in the latest test.

Rafijan's family now values the importance of nutrition, expressing gratitude to the BNF team for their efforts. The school community also appreciates the team's dedication.

This case highlights how awareness, education, and practical interventions can significantly improve the health and well-being of adolescents suffering from anemia.
